2x-5y=17 then subtract the 2x to get -5y=-2x+17 then divide by -5 to get y=2/5x-3 2/5 then substitute 2/5x- 3 2/5= 2x+3 then subtract 2/5x to get -3 2/5=1 3/5x+3 then subtract 3 to get -6 2/5= 1 3/5x lastly divide by 8/5 or multiply by 5/8 to get -4=x then substitute in 2* -4 +3=y -8 +3=y -5=y so substitute in to get -4*2- 5 * -5 then -8- -25=17 lastly 17=17
please note * means multiply
