Question 29013: A roof rises 9.75 ft over a horizontal distance of 12.31 ft. What is the slope of the roof to the nearest hundredth?

Slope is defined as the change in verticle distance (delta y)divided by the change in horizontal distance (delta x).

s = delta y/delta x
Assuming that we are starting at (0,0):
s = 9.75/12.31
s = 0.79

If you are starting at a point other than (0,0), you must take that into consideration when determining the deltas.
