Step 1: Graph the line but graph it with a dashed line instead of a solid line.

Step 2: Pick any point on the plane that is NOT on the line you just graphed. Generally speaking, the origin, (0,0), is a good choice. But in this case (0,0) is on the line, so you can't use it. In this case, I'd recommend using (1,1).

Step 3: Substitute the values of the coordinates you just selected into the original inequality. If you create a true statement, then shade in the half-plane that contains the point selected. If you create a false statement, shade in the other side.
