The length of a rectangle is 5cm less then 3 times as long as the width. The rectangle has a perimeter of 100. What is the length and width?

Let width be "w".
Then length = 3w-5
------
Perimeter = 2(length + width)
100 = 2(3w-5+w)
50 = 4w-5
4w = 55
w = 55/4 = 13 + 3/4 cm
----
length = 3(55/4)-5 = 165/4 - 20/4 = 145/4 = 36 1/4 cm
