what is the equation of a line that contains points (4,2)and (0,-1)?
----------------
1st find the slope, m
m = diffy/diffx = (-1-2)/0-4)
m = 3/4
--------
Then use y = mx + b with either point to find b:
2 = (3/4)*4 + b
b = -1
---------
y = mx + b
y = (3/4)x - 1 slope-intercept form
3x - 4y = 4 standard form
