Add equations

3x+2y=14
+ 3x-2y=10
------------
6x =24

6x=24
x=4
3(4)-2y=10
12-2y=10
-2y=-2
y=1

Answer: x=4, y=1

Answer by dabanfield(803)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

1) 3x + 3y = 14
2) 3x - 2y = 10
Multiply both sides of equation 1) by 2 and equation 2) by 3. Then we have:
1a) 6x + 6y = 28
2a) 9x - 6y = 30
Adding like terms of the two equations above we eliminate y:
15x + 0y = 58
15x = 58
x = 58/15
Substitue 58/15 for x in either equation 1) or 2) and then solve for y.
