Question 245818: Can someone help me.
1. Given the pair of linear equations in two variables:
•Find the x- and y-intercepts (if any) for each line. Show your work.
•Plot those intercepts, and graph the two lines. Submit your graph through the Dropbox.
•Apply elimination or substitution to find the coordinates of the point of intersection (if there are no solutions or infinite solutions, state this). Show your work.
x + y = -9
x + y = 3

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Given the pair of linear equations in two variables:
x + y = -9
x + y = 3
---------------------
•Find the x- and y-intercepts (if any) for each line. Show your work.
x + y = -9
x-int: Let y = 0, then x = -9
x-int is (-9,0)
----
y-int: Let x = 0, then y = -9
y-int is (0.-9)
---
Plot those points and draw a line thru them to get this graph:

======================
x+y = 3
If x = 0, y = 3 giving you y-int of (0,3)
If y = 0, x = 3 giving you x-int of (3,0)
---
Plot the two points and draw a line thru them to get this graph:

======================
-------------------------------------------------

•Plot those intercepts, and graph the two lines. Submit your graph through the Dropbox.
•Apply elimination or substitution to find the coordinates of the point of intersection (if there are no solutions or infinite solutions, state this). Show your work.
x + y = -9
x + y = 3
---
Subtract the 2nd Equation from the 1st to get:
0 = -12
---
That is a contradiction and means there is no solution
for the system of these two equations. The lines are
parallel so have no point of intersection.
