Question 238697: How does one find the x and y coordinates of y=3x+5
Answer by College Student(505)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How does one find the x and y coordinates of y=3x+5?
.
1. Draw a long "t" in your notebook (long vertically, not horizontaly). Use the left side for x values and the right side for y values. This is very useful to keep a tally of values.
2. Write 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in the column.
3. Plug this value in the equation and find the y values. There are your coordinates!
.
Problem:

... now you know when x=1, y=8. This is your first coordinate (1,8).
.

... now you know when x=2, y=11. This is your second coordinate (2,11).
.
Continue doing the same process for as many points as you want/need. Remember, you need at least two coordinate points in order to trace a straight line. All other coordinates you come up with using this equation must/will fall withi this line.
.
Hope this helped. :)
