What is the smallest number of people that must start the trip in order for one member of the group to cross the preserve and the others to return safely to the starting point?

If it is a 8 day crossing and they have 5 days of water, and then they have to go back also then...16 days of water needed. 5 days per person. Do you see where im going with this?
16 / 5 = 3 and 1/5 which means for that 1/5 and extra person would have to go. So 4 people minimum would be your answer. Good luck on your homework!
