Solve

The following steps uses the substitution method:

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE linear system by SUBSTITUTION
Solve:
We'll use substitution. After moving 7*y to the right, we get:
, or . Substitute that
into another equation:
and simplify: So, we know that y=-5=0. Since , x=39.

Answer: .

I hope the above steps were helpful.

Solve
x+7y=4
x=9-7y
-----------------
Substitute for x and solve for "y":
0-7y + 7y = 4
0 = 4
------------------------
That contradiction occurred because we assumed
the variables in the two equations could have
the same value respectively.
Conclusion: the x in both equations and/or the
y-values do not coalese on one or more points.
Therefore, no solution.

Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+7y=4
x=9-7y --> x+7y=9
-------
x+7y cannot equal both 4 and 9
These 2 equations are inconsistent, and there is no solution.
If you graph them, you get 2 parallel lines. No intersection = no solution.
