The question does not come out of the book. I am told to find the vertex, the line of symetry, the max or min value of the quadratic function and graph the function.

The question does not come out of the book. I am told to find the vertex, the line of symetry, the max or min value of the quadratic function and graph the function.

f(x)=-x^2+4x+5
a = -1 ; b = 4 ; c = 5
--------------------------------
Max or Min value occurs when x = -b/2a = -4/(-2) = 2
f(2) = -(2)^2 + 4*2 + 5 = 9
Vertex occurs at (2,9)
The vertex is a max because "a" is negative
---------------------------------------------
The axis of symmetry is x = 2 because it must pass thru the vertex.
