Question 206992: -2x + y < 6
Answer by dlam5(15) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-2x + y < 6;
Move a couple to terms around so that the y's are on the left, and x's on right.
THIS IS CALLED "SOLVING FOR Y"
you get y< 2x +6
Now graph; but where does it shade?
What I do is pick a point not on the line.
0,0 is not on that line; so plug 0 for x and 0 for y.
0 < 2(0) + 6
0<6
it is true, 0 IS less than 6. so i shade TOWARD the AREA which CONTAINS the point (0,0)
Thus, i shade right.
The graph should look like this...
