: How do I graph this 15x-29y=429? If I try solving for y I still don't have a slope I thought I was supposed to have a slope in order to graph it by solving for y the it's still a whole number but isn't slope rise/run? This question is from textbook

Your equation is in standard form, which is to say

Anytime you have a linear equation in this form, you can easily calculate the slope using , which for your problem is . Now that is a pretty ugly number to be using to create a graph.

Fortunately, there is a much simpler way to handle this one. First, select any number you like and substitute it for and then calculate the value of that results from your choice. Then form an ordered pair using the value you selected for the -coordinate and the value you calculated for the -coordinate. Finally, plot the point on your graph. Next, choose a different value for and repeat the process. Hint: Choose 0 and 1 for . That will make the arithmetic as easy as it can possibly be.

Once you have the two points plotted, draw a straight line passing through both of them. Done.
