Question 194148: Graph x - 3y > 2
When I work it I get y< 1/3x - 2/3
the pairs work out to (-3,-5/3),(0,-2/3), and (3,1/3).
When I check with (0,0) the result is false which makes the fill opposite of the graphed line. I don't believe this answer but I can't find any errors.

Use this --> http://72.3.253.76/webMathematica3/quickmath/page.jsp?s1=graphs&s2=inequalities&s3=basic
Or go get geogebra and install and use that.

You have the correct reasoning and logic. Since the inequality is false for the ordered pair (0,0), this means that ALL the points in the region above the line do NOT satisfy the inequality. So this means that the solution set is the ENTIRE region below the line. So simply shade the entire region below the line. Keep in mind that the line should be a dashed line (since we're not including the boundary).

Graph x - 3y > 2
----------
Solve for y:
3y < x-2
y < (1/3)x - (2/3)
-----------------------
The boundary line is y = (1/3)x-(2/3)

---------
Shade the half-plane below the boundary as you
want y to be LESS than the line.
