How many gallons of a 4% acid solution should be mixed with 20 gallons of a 10% acid solution to obtain a mixture that is 5% acid?
-----------------------------------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.10*20 + 0.04x = 0.05(20+x)
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
10*20 + 4x = 5(20+x)
200 + 4x = 100 + 5x
x = 100 gallons (amt. of 4% solution needed for the mixture:
