Question 182139: I would appreciate the help with this problem,
Given
A. Find the x- and y-intercepts of the graph of the equation.
B. Test the equation for symmetry with respect to the x-axis, the y-axis, and the origin.
I would be thankful for any help on atleast part A. I think that the y-intercept is undefined.
Thanks

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given y =(x^2-4)/x
A. Find the x- and y-intercepts of the graph of the equation.
You're right y intercept occurs when x = 0, that can't be (/0) so undefined
Find the x intercept:
(x^2 - 4)/x = 0
multiply both sides by x
x^2 - 4 = 0
difference of squares, factors to:
(x-2)(x+2) = 0
x = 2, -2 are the intercepts
Looks like this

B. Test the equation for symmetry with respect to the x-axis, the y-axis, and the origin.
:
It is symmetrical with respect to the origin
