Question 181626: Hello, I need to find the slope of a line, but I'm confused when reading the graph. The point on the x axis is 4 and the point on the y axis is 5. So how would I write the formula. I don't know if 0 should come first or the actual number of 4 and 5. I have (0,4) and (5,0).
Please help

I need to find the slope of a line, but I'm confused when reading the graph. The point on the x axis is 4 and the point on the y axis is 5. So how would I write the formula. I don't know if 0 should come first or the actual number of 4 and 5. I have (0,4) and (5,0).
-------------------------------------
slope = (change in y)/(change in x)
----
slope = (0-4)/(5-0) = -4/5
------------------------------
Note: You must remember to subtract one from the other IN THE SAME ORDER.
Since I did the Y-subtraction as 0-4 I had to take the y-subtration as 5-0
The 0 and the 5 are from the same point; the 5 and the 0 are from the same
point.

--------------------
Slope is the change in y divided by the change in x.
m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m = (0-4)/(5-0)
m = -4/5
