Question 176567: how can you tell from the equations how many solutions the linear system has?
2x + y = -1
-6x - 3y = -15
Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
again slope is key ....so lets re-write these equations in slope intercept form which is
:
y=mx+b where m is the slope
:
y=-2x-1
-3y=6x-15--->divide terms by -3--->y=-2x+5
:
ok in both cases the slope is -2 and it is not the same line(same exact equation) so the lines are parallel.
:
When two lines are parallel there is NO solution.
