its simply a definition.....there really is nothing to understand
:
the abcissa is the x coordinate and the ordinate is the y coordinate so in the ordered pair (3,4)
:
3 is the abcissa and 4 is the ordinate
:
in (12,-7)
:
abcissa is 12
ordinate is -7
