: How do I solve the problem when I have to graph the equation with the x before the = sign. the problem is x-y=4.
a. write the coordinates of two points on each line whose equation is given.
b. Use the coordinates to find the slope of the line.
c.hat is the slope of a lone that is parallel to each line whose equation is given.
d. what is the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the line whose equation is given?

Answer by gonzo(654)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you have to move the x and the constants to the right side of the equation and move the y to the left side of the equation.
then use the slope intercept form of the equation to find the slope and the y intercept if not given.
-----
here's how.
-----
your equation is:
x - y = 4
add y to both sides of the equation.
x = y + 4
subtract 4 from both sides of the equation.
x - 4 = y
exchange sides of equation (it remains the same: if a = b, then b = a)
y = x - 4
this is the slope intercept form of the equation.
the general equation for the slope intercept form of the equation is: y = m*x + b
in your equation,
m = 1
b = -4
-----
m is the slope. b is the y-intercept (value of y when x = 0).
-----
now that you have the equation in the slope intercept form, you can graph it easily.
here's a graph of the equation y = x - 4
