Question 167021: I really need help on this one. My book has me confused.
find the equation of the line perpendicular to 3x – 4y = 9 and passing through (-2, -1). Write the equation in standard form, with all integer coefficients.
Thanks if you can help.

Let's get this line 1st:
We can follow the eqn thru the SLope Intercept form,
Divide whole eqn by 4
---> slope (m)=3/4, and y-intercept(b) = -9/4
f(y)=0: Then,

-->

We have points (3,-9/4) for this line. We see the graph,
-- see points (3,-9/4)
Now, we'll see the line that passes thru (-2,-1) & perpendicular to above line:
By , and since it's perpendicular, the slope,
Continuing,

----> y-intercept
Therefore, getting this y intercept ( we'll need it in the graph of course), your line eqn --->
Simplifying if you want,
, Or, Multiply whole eqn by 3:

ANSWER
See the graph,
---> see the RED line, it DOES NOT PASS on (-2,-1) BUT RATHER ON POINTS (-1,-2)as shown again:
---> RED Line : GREEN Line
Thank you,
Jojo
