Discuss the symmetry of the function y = - x^5 / (x^2 – 8)
Compare f(x), f(-x), and -f(-x)
----------------------------
f(x) = - x^5 / (x^2 – 8)
f(-x) = x^5 / (x^2 - 8)
-f(-x) = -x^5/(x^2 -8)
----------------------------
Since f(x) and f(-x) are not the same, the function is not symmetric to the y-axis; it is NOt EVEN.
-----------
Sinc f(x) and -f(-x) are the same, the function is symmetric to the origin:
it is ODD.
