Question 151286: A line goes through the point (3,-5) and has slope -3/2. graph this line. but can someone explain how to graph this point. please i need the help bad
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the x-axis is the horizontal (left-right) and the y-axis is the vertical (up-down)
__ right and up are positive, left and down are negative
(3,-5) is 3 on the x-axis and -5 on the y-axis
__ starting at the origin (where the axes cross), go 3 to the right and then down 5 __ this is (3,-5)
the negative slope means that as one value increases, the other decreases; and vice versa
__ the number is the amount of change
__ -3/2 means that x increases by 2 while y decreases by 3 __ or x decreases by 2 while y increases by 3
so, starting at (3,-5); go right 2 and down 3 to (5,-8) __ do it again to (7,-11)
__ similarly, from (3,-5); go left 2 and up 3 to (1,-2) __ and again to (-1,1)
draw a straight line through the points (you really only need 2) and that's the graph
