Question 150239: I need help graphing a line that goes through (2,3) and haas a slope of 1/2 on a rectangular coordinate system. I have been trying and trying this one for a while. I am using m=y2-y1/x2-x1. Is this correct.
My next question is writing 2 linear equations written in the slope intercept form that are 1 parallel and perpendicular. I know that parallel forms a 90 degree angle.
My last question is to find the slope of the line that goes through the points (-1,3),(5,-2) It would be greatly appreciated if you could help..

The formula is y2-y1 = m(x2-x1)
But that is the two-point formula and you have only one point.

Use the point-slope formula sense you are given the slope and a point.
y = mx + b
You know m= 1/2 and y = 3 when x = 2; so solve for "b":
3 = (1/2)2 + b
3 = 1 + b
b = 2
----------
EQUATION:
y = (1/2)x + 2

If two lines are parallel their slopes are the same.
Example: y = 2x +3 is parallel to y = 2x + 5

Example: y = 2x + 3 is perpendicular to y = (-1/2)x + 3

My last question is to find the slope of the line that goes through the points (-1,3),(5,-2)
slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (-2-3)/(5--1) = -5/6
