First graph the given equation y = 2x

This equation is in the slope intercept form y = mx + b in which m (the multiplier of x) is
the slope of the line and b the constant is the value on the y-axis where the graph intersects
(crosses) the y-axis.

By comparing the given equation with the slope intercept form you can tell that the graph
should have a slope of 2 because 2 is the multiplier of x. The constant b must equal zero
because there is no constant on the right side of the given equation. This tells you that the
graph crosses the y-axis at the origin because the y value at the origin is zero.

So you know the graph crosses through the origin and has a slope of 2. You can also use
some points to determine the graph. For example, you can let x = 10. Plug this value for
x into the given equation to find the corresponding value of y and you get:

y = 2x = 2(10) = 20
.
With x = 10 and the corresponding value of y = 20, you can mark the point (10,20) and
it will be on the graph. Put a straight edge on the origin and the point (10, 20) and
extend a line through those two points. That is the graph and it should look like this:
