Find the x-intercept of y = x squared - 3x - 10
--------
Let y = 0 and solve for "x":
x^2-3x-10 = 0
(x-5)(x+2)=0
x = 5 and x=-2 are the x-intercepts.
-------------------
Find the axis of symmetry of y = -x squared - 6x + 2
The axis occurs at x = -b/2a = 6/(2(-1)) = 3

The x-intercept occurs where

These are the x-intercepts- either one makes

When the equation is in the form ,
the axis of symmetry is at the line
In this case,

axis of symmetry
I'll check this by plotting
