Question 1188300: Min Young wants to buy not more than 6 cell phone cases (x) and tempered glasses (y) for her children but she only has less than Php 1,000 to spend. A cell phone case and tempered glass costs Php 180 and Php 150 respectively. How many cell phone case and tempered glass could she buy?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
she could buy up to 5 cell phone cases for a total of 5 * 180 = 900.
she would have 100 left over which would not be enough to buy tempered glasses.
she could buy 4 cell phone cases for a total of 4 * 180 = 720.
she would have 280 left over which would be enough to buy 1 pair of tempered glasses = 150, for a total of 880.
the graphical solution is shown below.
the excel table solution is shown below.
you can see that the maximum combinations of cell phone cases and tempered glasses is (0,6), (1,5), (2,4), (3,3), (4,1), (5,0).
these are displayed in (x,y) format.
x = the number of cell phone cases.
y = the number of tempered glasses.
the spread sheet shows the total cost for each option in yellow.
he last statement on the spreadsheet was cut off.
it's supposed to read:
6 cell phone cases cost 180 * 6 = 1080 which is greater than 1000, therefore not applicable (n/a).
