Question 1166482: A plane traveled 3300 miles with the wind in 5.5 hours and 2530 miles against the wind in the same amount of time. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the speed of the wind.
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed with the wind is 3300/5.5 or 600 mph
speed against the wind is 2530/5.5 or 460 mph
s+w=600
s-w=460
2s=1060
s=530 mph in still air.
The wind, w, is 70 mph.
