What is the meaning of the [ ] around the 2x-3?
There is no standard meaning for this; it could be one of many things. We can't answer the question if we don't know what the question is.
If those symbols are supposed to be absolute values, then the response you received earlier is incomplete.
Note you can indicate absolute value with the "|" symbol (shift-backslash).
