Start at the origin (where the the x and y axis intersect)

Now move your pencil 3 units to the left
We move 3 units in this direction since the x-coordinate is -3 (its the first number of the pair)





Now go 3 units down
We move 3 units in this direction since the y-coordinate is -3 (its the second number of the pair)




Plot a point where the pencil lands



So here is the point (-3,-3)
