Question 110296: I'm in indiana useing the college text book intro to algebra, eight edition, by lial hornsby mcginnis, now the one i'm stuck on is the following
Decide whether or not the given ordered pair is a solution of the given system. ( Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Graphing)
My instructor sucks!!! that swhy i need help with the following
( 2, -3 )
x + y = -1
2x + 5y = 19
?
?
totally lost please help!!!
also
solve each system of equations by graphing. ( granted my text shows the graph and i got graph paper not sure how exactly you can help with this) If the two equations produce parallel lines write no solution. If the two equations produce the same line write infinite number of solution......
x - y = 2
x + y = 6
then here would be the graph
thanks
my names leona
Answer by malakumar_kos@yahoo.com(315) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
( 2, -3 )
x + y = -1
2x + 5y = 19
substituting the values of x = 2 and y = -3 in x+y
we get 2+(-3) = 2-3 = -1 since the first eq'n is satisfied (2,-3) is the
solution for x+y = -1
2(2)+5(-3) = 4-15 = -11 not equal to 19 . hence (2,-3) is not the solutin for 2x+5y = 19

x - y = 2
x + y = 6
since the two eq'ns produce parallel lines there is no solutions
