Problem:

If the graph is that of f(x), name a point that lies on f-1 (x).
A) (3, 1)
B) (2, -2)
C) (1, -3)
D) (-3, 1)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer: Choice D) (-3,1)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reasoning:

The point (1,-3) lies on the parabola given in the original problem. This point is of the form (x,y) where x = 1 and y = -3. When it comes to the inverse, everything gets swapped. The x's become y's and vice versa. So (x,y) = (1,-3) becomes (y,x) = (-3,1) which is what choice D says.

Side Note: If you did this swapping with EVERY point on the parabola, then things will reflect over the line y = x to have the parabola open sideways to the right.
