Question 1043671: Find all the points on the x-axis that are a distance of 13 units from (12,5).
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

All points on the x-axis have their y-coordinates equal to 0.
So let the point (a,0) be a point on the x-axis such that the
distance from (12,5) to (a,0) is 13 units:

Use the distance formula:

Square both sides:

(((12-a)^2=144}}}

Take square roots of both sides

Using the +

Using the -

There are exactly two points, substituting in (a,0),

they are (0,0), and (24,0)
