Question 103601: What does my teacher mean when she says "Tell how each of the following may be graphed by "shifting" the graph of y=/x/. Then sketch the graph for each."
y = /x + 2/ - 1
y = /x - 3/ - 2
y = /x - 1/ + 2
y = -/x + 2/ + 1 Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! "Tell how each of the following may be graphed by "shifting" the graph of y=/x/. Then sketch the graph for each."
-----------------
Graph y = |x|
-------------------------------
y = /x + 2/ - 1
The "x+2" moves the graph 2 to the left;
The -1 moves the graph 1 down;
You get:
-----------------------
y = /x - 3/ - 2
The "x-3" moves the original graph 3 to the right:
The -2 moves it down 2
You get:
--------------------
y = /x - 1/ + 2
One to the right, then up 2.
-----------------
y = -/x + 2/ + 1
Two to the left, then flip it over the x-axis, then up 1.
