Question 1026974: This is a word problem to find the slope of a roof.
The question is: A contractor goes to a lumbar yard to purchase some trusses (triangular frames) for the roof of a house. Many sizes are available, so the contractor takes some measurements to ensure the roof will have the desired slope. In one case, the height of the truss (base to ridge) was 4ft, with a width of 24ft (eave to eave).
a) Find the slope of the roof if these trusses are used.
b)What does this slope indicate?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
consider your problem as a
right angled triangle.
Height = 4ft
Base = 12ft (Half the 24ft)
Tan (theta) = Opposite/Adjacent
Tan (theta) = 4/12
Tan (theta) = 0.33..
theta = 18.4 degrees.
This is the slope.
b)Between 15 and 30 degrees is recommended
for allowing rain water to run off roofs.
So this is acceptable.
Hope this helps :-)
