If you mean y = x^2 +18x + 9 and you want the zeros of the equation, then
:
x^2 +18x +9 = 0 and solve for x
:
you could use the quadratic formula or completing the square
:
I will use completing the square
:
x^2 +18x = -9
:
divide 18 by 2 and square it, add result to both sides of =
:
x^2 +18x +81 = 72
:
(x+9)^2 = 72
:
take square root of both sides
:
x+9 = 6 * square root (2)
:
x = 6 * square root (2) - 9
and
x = (6 * (-square root (2))) - 9
:
