Question 1016743: My project problem states: The US population is 317,000,000. The National Debt is 17,000,000,000
For the purposes of this project, assume that population growth is a linear function that grows at a steady, unchanging rate of 0.9% per year, and that debt growth is a linear function that grows at a steady, unchanging rate of 13% per year. Use the population and debt figures from #1. Show all of your work.
Find the linear equation for population in slope intercept form.
Find the linear equation for debt in slope intercept form.

I had gotten so far into the problem, using y=mx+b, plugging in for population:
y=pop(.009)+pop
y=317,000,000(.009)+317,000,000
and continuing on from there, with population rising and building upon itself, however I'm told that it is not correct. My feedback was"You have just used the percentage as the slope for the equations. The slope should represent the number of people that the populations grows by every year. You must use the percentage and the initial population to calculate the slope. Then assume they will stay the same throughout time. Because your equations are not correct, your graphs will be inaccurate as well. So you will want to redo them before you submit. "
The only thing I can think of is to find the slope by using rate of change, but the problem states they want it in slope intercept form

.
POPULATION:
.
x=number of years; y=population in year (x)
.
y=(1.00+0.09x)(317000000)
y=317000000+28530000x
y=2853000x+317000000
.
This is not a true representation, but population
growth equations that represent reality are not linear.
And this is only my understanding of what you are being
asked.
.
DEBT:
.
Same as above:
x=number of years; y=total debt in year (x)
.
