Strict inequality based on the line in standard form. Look for the axis intercepts, just using arithmetic, and graph the two points. Draw a DOTTED line to show where the equation line would be; then you have a couple choices to shade the solution region.

(*) Test any point in the two halves of the plane, and then shade the region of the point which satisfies the inequality.
OR
(*) The other way is convert to slope intercept form and choose the region according to the inequality in this form.




Solving for the intercepts:
Let x=0 and find y;
Let y=0 and find x.

Carefully understand, you draw a DOTTED line because the strict inequality EXCLUDES the line.
