Question 998584: ΔABC and ΔXYZ are similar triangles. If BC = x + 5, AC = x + 1, YZ = x + 3, and XZ = x + 2, find the value of x.
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Without seeing the diagrams, I am assuming
If so we cross multiply and get
(x+5)(x+2)=(x+3)(x+1)
x^2+7x+10=x^2+4x+3
7x + 10 = 4x + 3
3x = -7
x = -7/3
But this is not possible since two sides would be less than zero.
Thus, no solution is possible.
