Is it true that when constructing the median of a triangle, it is possible that the median may lie exterior to the triangle?

On the area of high school algebra and geometry, I do not believe that the medians of triangles can go beyond the sides of a triangle.
However, you can always extend the median line outside of the triangle if you needed to, but this would not be called a median.
