The midpoint of two points which would be the endpoints of a line segment is like the average of the x coordinates and the average of the y coordinates. I like to use the illustration of a student who has had two tests in his/her algebra class, and two tests in his/her history class. To find the average of the test grades you would add the algebra grades and divide by 2, then add the history grades and divide by 2. This is how I teach midpoint.
For a poster, you could give a couple of examples of line segments on a graph, showing the midpoints and illustrating by adding and dividing by 2. Then you could give a picture of two towers or two building of different height and a distance apart with a rope joining the tops of the towers. The middle of the rope is the midpoint. You could give a picture of a mountain or two mountains with a chairlift between the mountains or from mountain to a point on the ground. You could use a telephone pole with a guy wire anchoring it to the ground a distance away from the base of the pole. You could look through magazines and look for pictures that might relate to the topic. Be creative.
