Question 348048: 10th Grade Geometry Proof
Greetings...
Here is the problem:
Given: Line segment.SZ ≌ Line segment.ST
Line segment.XY ≌ Line segment.VW
Y is the midpoint of Line segment.ZX
V is the midpoint of Line segment.TW
Prove: Line segment.SX ≌ Line segment.SW
The figure is here: http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/Frostcaster/proof11.png
I am now in a chapter titled "Multiplication and Division properties"
My grade level is 10th.
-------
I tried to solve it...but the outcome does not seems right.
If my proof is all messed up, please don't bother to fix it, start a new one.
------
Statements | Reasons
1/SZ ≌ ST | 1/Given
2/XY ≌ VW | 2/Given
3/Y is the midpoint of ZX | 3/Given
4/V is the midpoint of TW | 4/Given
5/Y bisects ZX | 5/If a point is the midpoint of a segment, then it bisects the
segment.
6/V bisects TW | 6/If a point is the midpoint of a segment, then it bisects the
segment.
7/ZY ≌ YX | 7/If a point bisects a segment into two segments, then the two
segments are congruent.
8/TV ≌ VW | 8/If a point bisects a segment into two segments, then the two
segments are congruent.
9/SX ≌ SW | 9/If segments are added to congruent segments, then the sums
are congruent.

Thanks!

You're doing great and you pretty much have this solved. However, you need to show that ZY is congruent to TV. Once you do that, you can use the idea that if the parts are congruent, then the whole segments (they add up to) are congruent as well. Let me know if what I'm saying makes sense.
