Question 269986: Hello. I was given 2 questions about Venn diagrams where we are given information and we need to decide which is in the bigger circle (outside circle) and which goes in the smaller circle (inside the bigger circle)
1.) if a car is new, then it has seat belts (WOULD NEW CAR BE IN THE SMALL CIRCLE AND SEAT BELTS BE IN THE BIG CIRCLE?)
2.) every square is a quadrilateral (WOULD SQUARE BE IN THE LITTLE CIRCLE AND QUADRILATERAL BE IN THE BIGGER CIRCLE?)
thanks i eagerly await your response

These are Euler diagrams not Venn diagrams.
1) New car is in the small circle inside the large circle because the universe of seat belts contains all new cars.
2) For the same reason square would be inside the larger universe of quadrilaterals.

1.) if a car is new, then it has seat belts (WOULD NEW CAR BE IN THE SMALL CIRCLE AND SEAT BELTS BE IN THE BIG CIRCLE?)
The bigger circle would represent the set of all cars (both those with (new) and those without seatbelts). Since those with seatbelts are a subset of all cars these could be represented by a circle entirely inside the car circle.
The second problem is very similar. There's the bigger set (larger circle) of all quadrilaterals (that is all 4-sided figures) and the subset (smaller circle)of quadrilaterals with four equal sides (that is squares).
Whenever we say all "a" are "b" the set of a's are a subset (smaller circle) of the b's (larger circle).
