You need first to know what are SAS, ASA and SSS.
They are three basic and independent tests for triangle congruency.

(by the way, AAS is the derivative of the ASA-test.)

Read these lessons in this site:
    - Congruence tests for triangles
    - Problems on congruence tests for triangles
    - Problems on congruence tests for triangles-2

Comment from student: Thanks for your help. On the sheet I have it did say that there was
AAS (angle, angle,side), SSS(side,side,side), SAS(side,angle,side),ASA(angle,side,angle).
I just didn't know when to use them, but thanks for you help I understand better.

My response: In addition to what I wrote above, look in this lesson PROPERTIES OF TRIANGLES.

This file is the list of my lessons on triangles.
Many lessons of this list contain concrete applications of the triangle congruency tests.

You can learn it directly from this list.

I need help with knowing when to use ASA,AAS, and SAS.Can you please help. I asked my teacher and still don't get it.
There are 5 proof-methods when proving triangles congruent. These are:
AAS - Two triangles can be proven congruent if 2 consecutive angles, followed by a side, on one, can be proven congruent to 2
consecutive angles, followed by a side, on the other
ASA - Congruence can be proven if congruent sides are located between 2 congruent angles on both
SSS - Self-explanatory, or when 3 sides of one triangle are proven congruent to 3 sides of the other triangle
SAS - Congruence can be proven if 2 congruent angles are located between 2 congruent sides on each triangle
HL - Two triangles are congruent if they are right triangles and one triangle's hypotenuse, and one of its leg is proven to be
congruent to the other triangle's hypotenuse, and corresponding leg
YOU CANNOT CURSE, or THERE is NO DONKEY method. Look this up, and you'll know what I'm referring to!!
I'm sure that there are MANY sites with info. on methods to prove triangles congruent.
