Question 12016: I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this or not, but what exactly is a base function? For an example in my homework: Sketch the graph of the following function. List the base graph and transformations made to it.
f(x)=-2x^3+4
I missed a class and this is nowhere in my book (i'm in college and she doesn't use it) i have a test coming up and this looks like a major part of it. Please help!!! thanks!

Question 13407: Your assistance on this is appreciated.
Over what interval is the following piecewise function increasing?
f(x)=
{-1-x for x<-2
{3x+7 for -2<=x<=-1
{1 for x>-1
choices of answers are (-inf.,-2),[-2,-1],(-1,inf.), the function is not increasing over any range, or none of the above.

Question 14979: I need to develop a function that represents the following conditions:
A car was purchased for $22,500. The value of the car decreases by $3200 per year for the first six years. Write a function that describes the value of the car, V, after x years, where x is greater than or equal to 0 but less than or equal to 7. Then find and interpret V(3).
V(x)=22,500-3200(x)
v(3)=22,500-3200(3)
That would be my best guess. Thanks for your help!

Question 15349: In reference to Inverse Functions: How do you determine when to use the "short cut" method when trying to find the inverse of a function? For example, f(x) y = (x3+8)/3 so, we cubed it, added 8, and then divided by 3. If you undo it in reverse order (multiply 3, minus 8, cube root) it becomes the inverse. Why won't this work on all the problems? Thank you in advance!
