Question 395449: okay my teacher aske me to take an equation and first solve for y then rewrite it in function notation then find the intercepts.
the equation im solving is : 2x-8y=12
heres what i did but there is no answer key to check my work if im even doing it right.
2x-8y=12 let x represent 0 "i just chose any # for this"?
= 2(0)-8y=12
= -8y/-8y=12/-8y
= y=-1.5 so to put it into function notation would it be {f(0)=-1.5}?
thats the part im confused about..

What about if I know some values for x and y and I want the function? Example: I want to build a curve, arc segment; and I know that when:

x=2 y=1
We could say y = 3-x, but that isn't a curve.
So, how do I get the curve?
Thanks for the attention!

Question 397870: I did the following problem, but I am not certain I did it correctly. I am hoping a tutor can double check this for me, and put me on the right path if it is wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here is the problem:
Find f^-1(x)
f(x)= (2x-3)/(x+1)
Here's how I did it:
f(x)=2x-3/(x+1)
y=2x-3/(x+1)
x=(2y-3)/(y+1)
xy= (2y-3)/(y+1)*y
xy= 2y-3
xy-2y=-3
y(x-2)/(x-2)=-3/(x-2)
y=-3/(x-2)
so f^-1(x)= -3/(x-2)
Ok...Is this correct, or do I need to go back to the drawing board? Could someone please show me how to check these? Thank you!
