As an example, the domain of any polynomial function is the set of all real numbers. But I'm not sure what you mean by "a real situation". Yes, there are practical and certainly finite limitations that the real world would impose on any function that described a physical or tangible phenomenon. Hence, there are numbers in the interval
that would certainly be nonsensical as inputs to any function descriptive of the real world.
