Kathy and Rheta share an 8 slice pizza. The number of slices Rheta can eat depends on how many slices Kathy eats. Write a function rule to describe this relationship. What are the domain and range?
-----------------
Let # Kathy eats be "x"
Rheta eats 8-x pieces
R = 8-x
=============
Domain is the natural numbers from 0 up to 8
Range is the natural numbers from 0 up to 8

Is that all the instructions say? The statement "the number of slices Rheta can eat depends on how many slices Kathy eats" is vague and doesn't tell us if one person eats twice as much, three times as much, etc. as the other one. So I'm going to assume that if Kathy can eat one slice, then her friend will eat the 7 slices leftover. If Kathy can eat 3 slices, then her friend can eat 4, etc.

So if x denotes how much Kathy can eat, then 8-x denotes how much Rheta can eat (she eats what is leftover)

So the function would be

Of course Kathy cannot eat less than zero pieces or more than 8 (neither can Rheta). So the domain and range is .

note: remember, I'm assuming that this is the relationship the book is looking for (they never said how Rheta was dependent on Kathy)
