Question 77673: Find the standard form of the equation of the line with slope=0, passing throught the point (-8,5) Answer by funmath(2933) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Find the standard form of the equation of the line with slope=0, passing throught the point (-8,5)
Lines with slopes of 0 are horizontal lines in which the y coordinates are all the same. They are always the equation . Where k is that never changing y value. In this case:
y=5
It's a special case worth memorizing.
Otherwise you can use the point slope formula , where (x1,y1) is a point on the line and m is the slope.
(x1,y1)=(-8,5) m=0
y-5=0(x-(-8))
y-5=0
y-5+5=0+5
y=5 The hard way.
Happy Calculating!!!!
