please help me solve the following problem.
problem:Determine the domain of each function.
i)f(x)=x+2/x
ii) f(x)=2x+1/sq.root of x-1
Domain is what the x's are allowed to be.
For i, denominators can be anything except for 0. Therefore, the domain for i is {x|x not=0} <--set builder notation
(-infinity,0)U(0,infinity) <--interval notation
:
For ii, denominators can be anything except 0, but even roots have to be positive or 0 on the inside. In this case the denominator is a square root, so what is inside of the square root has to be positive and not equal to 0.
Therefore, the domain of ii is {x|x>1} set builder notation
(1,infinity) set builder notation.
Happy Calculating!!!
